Our fatm workshops and programs consist of formats that allow participants to understand the significance and impact of natural Living, our heritage and on our earth through hands-on experiences with natural elements and the environment.
You will learn how to naturally build, create, farm, extract, collect, and live by traditional principles of permaculture, self-sustainability, and the ancient knowledge of our ancestors.
The retreats take place in our home ancestral land located in the Iganga in the Eastern region of Uganda , 45 minutes drive from Jinja and 3 hours from Kampala.
We offer private small cottages and glamping accommodations, an open dining area, daily local Ugandan tasty meals, offgrid toilets, off-grid showers, and a zen-like environment where you can reconnect with the elements and, ultimately, with your deepest self.
Witness the transformative power of music firsthand as you collaborate with local Busu village musicians.
Uganda is so rich and diverse in its culture. Much of Busoga’s cultural activity centres on the family and the ethnic group. Art, music, and oral literature serve to reinforce existing religious and social patterns. .
Busoga region in Uganda has a rich, long-lived and deeply embedded musical tradition and has given us numerous musical treasures, a few of which I would like to share with you, along with a brief look at the vibrant music culture which still thrives.
This program gives you the opportunity to learn Ugandan music: xylophone, drumming, adungu, Akogo, Nkwanzi, Ndingidi singing, dancing, batik and tie-dye making, weaving, beads making, and basket weaving.
You can also participate in instrument making, cooking etc.
The program also includes excursions to other parts of Busoga, including the Jinj and other parts of Busoga where you will see Busoga culture and heritage.
BATIKING WORKSHOP
Discover the art and beauty of African batik and get a glimpse into the life of a local artisan as you work side-by-side. You’ll join a local batik maker in her workshop to learn the traditional techniques of batik production – using wax and dye to create colorful patterns – to make your own one-of-a-kind fabric. Afterwards, take your two yards of handiwork home to sew into a finished product that will always have a special place in your home or wardrobe.
UGANDAN COOKING WORKSHOP
Explore the fragrant and exotic flavors of Ugandan cuisine in our kitchen. You will be introduced to an array of new tastes and flavors as you learn how to create authentic Ugandan dishes. Using Kisoga cooking techniques, during this workshop you will create traditional dishes like Matooke, groundnut soup, Chicken luwombo, Cassava, Chapati making, Katogo and more. After learning the recipes, you will enjoy eating the feast you’ve helped to prepare!
BEAD MAKING WORKSHOP
This workshop provides a first-hand look at the ancient tradition of Ugandan bead making. You’ll join a talented local craftsman in his workshop to discover bead making methods from beginning to end. Through hands-on participation, you will learn the process that artists follow, using termite clay, palm leaves, Banana leaves, sisal or paper recycled into beautiful, vibrant beads. Then, you will have an opportunity to choose your own colors and patterns and create beads and a bracelet of your own.
- All instruments and instruction will be provided by the local artist. Stories are authentic Busoga folktales handed down through the ages and shared with the children in the village.
- The program can be adapted for a small group or one as large as 20 or more. The more participants, the less hands-on time they will have with the instruments, but everyone will be provided an opportunity to play.
Workshops are open to everyone, regardless of profession, age, or gender.
Please note that the workshops of Ugandan heritage Music, farming, art, herbs, cooking etc will be both theoretical and practical. We believe that the best way to learn is by doing, so our classes will emphasize practical experience as well as theoretical knowledge.
Families and children are also welcome.
